Winter is coming. The clouds are getting lower and lower over campus and almost every morning is greeted with a soft blanket of snow (that melts before dinnertime). Still, my lights are off and my blinds are open so that I can watch the snow fall over the parking lot at 1 o'clock in the morning as I am finishing my communications term paper. Classes are getting more intense because there is only so much time left in the semester and everything in the syllabus needs to get finished. I can see the stress in everyone's days. People are becoming short-tempered and easily angered, that however, does not kill the buzz that comes from anticipating more and more snow. Time to break out the winter jackets people!
Lots of changes have been taking place on the Spring Valley Campus this year. The Air-conditioning/ heating broke in the Student Services building and for the past month or so the building has been under construction. Many people's offices have been displaced but the entire staff seems to be coping with it quite well. We also have new smoking shelters. I for one have immensely enjoyed the fact that I can walk from class to the Residence hall without needing to hold my breath. My views are not the same as the smokers' though, they feel like they should be able to smoke anywhere. We also have new landscaping. outside the front doors of the Res. Hall there used to be a rock wall and dying trees, now there is a beautiful brick wall, new plants, trees and three picnic tables (pictures to come). RA interviews were this weekend and I have to say that all the applicants were worthy and I feel like they would all be great at the job. I do not envy the people that decide who to choose, that decision would be quite difficult. Out of fourteen applicants only five will be chosen.
Tonight is FREE bowling at the El Jebowl bowling alley! An activity put on by Student Activities Committee that is a major hit! Have fun and stay safe!

The way we see the world
September was a long month. A month of getting to know everyone and getting to know classes. It was also a month of planning. Each club plans the entire semester (mostly) in September. I attended several of these club meetings and am currently secretary of Student Government. I was able to see first hand the possibilities of new and exciting things to come here at CMC. So far this year we have had several wonderful speakers grace us with their presence, including a mentalist, a hypnotist, comedians, musicians and even an Invisible Children screening. I have been here for three years and amazingly this year we had the best turn out of student involvement and attendance at each one of these events. Also, we have had some great RA (Resident Assistant) programs, such as Chug-n-Tug (which my co-blogger Dylan has an excellent video of), Ninja Strike, Blacklight Dodgeball, Paint your Wood, and many others. October seemed to fly by, the perspective changed. We had just as many wonderful programs, with more to come, but people are getting into a routine. Classes are a normal thing, everyone talks to everyone and for the most part everyone knows each other, and the new rooms are familiar homes to people. A friend and I were house sitting in town this week and she actually said to me "Kira, when are we going home?" The only thing that the Campus is missing is snow (its okay to disagree). October is my favorite month, that may be why I think it's moving quickly. I really enjoy the colors of the leaves, it's the perfect weather to hike at any time of day, and with the anticipation of Halloween, becoming anything you want, and snow just around the corner, October is a wonderful month.
See you around!
